Work groups are commonly formed about disease sites to establish national definitions for these elements. Currently, a pilot work group for Head and Neck has been formed and is working through compiling and defining data elements. The group consists of:
- Michelle Parisien - Group Librarian
- Twylla Versluis - Librarian
- Steven Nakoneshny - Librarian
- Aaron Suggitt - Administrator
The group's secondary purpose will be to develop a standard procedure for further disease-site work groups to follow when curating additional data elements. This process will be documented here and supported with process flows, examples, and other documentation as required.
Metadata Curation Process
- Establishes a working list of data element concepts (DEC). Focus is on naming and basic definition.
- Data Element Concepts are related to existing Objects and Properties. Definitions can be inherited to better define the DEC.
If existing objects/properties cannot be found then new ones must be created from existing concepts (may need to create these as well).
- Once a DEC has been properly defined and linked then the creation of new Data Elements can begin.
- Data Elements require validation rules, value domain information such as format, data type and look up
values to be defined.
- These data elements are then grouped into data sets.
